Want a sweet smelling, cute little wildflower that grows anywhere there is sun a warmth(even for a few hours). Then the Plains Calliopsis might be the plant for you. We have a plethera of these wildflowers all throughout our garden this year, more so then last year. The can grow in dry soil so, we see these little beauties popped up in the most unsuals spaces in the garden here in Goodyear,AZ. The Plains Calliopsis(Golden Tickseed), is a mostly Western US wildflower, that once thrived in the East. Its main characteristics are skinny green branches with bright yellow delicate flowers with marone colored centers. This plant as stated is mostly find in the West but also in the South which can be found in damp ditches in the wild.

How long do they last: Typically we see them almost year-round in our garden(due to the abundance of warmth and sunshine in Central Arizona), the only times I don't see any is Dec though maybe the beginning of February when it gets down to the 40s at nighttime in our area.

Soil: Moist Soil( really it can grow even here in the desert with just a little water)
Preference: Sandy, moist soil
Thrives: In rainy years within wildflower meadows. Just be careful when you propagate seeds this spread like wildfire throughout the garden, the great thing about that is it can provide much-needed shade to veggies and herbs throughout the spring and summer.
General Uses
Wildlife: Attracts Nectar Bees, Butterflies, Insects, and Granivirious Birds
Medicinal Uses: Native Americans and Some Asian cultures use the flowers and the whole plant to make tea to treat many different conditions. If you use these flowers use them with caution especially if you have serious medical conditions.
Other uses: The delicate yellow flowers can be used as dye if boiled. Possibly can be used as a fragrance.
